White Pine Interpretive TrailKnown as the area where "The White Pine Speaks," the White Pine Interpretive Trail is along the Superior National Forest Scenic Byway. The interpretive trail is a short 1000- foot walk among the large, majestic White Pine Trees. Some of these majestic trees are almost 250 years old. Each of the nine stops, indicated by a change in tread way and a number post on the right side of the trail, present the history and observations suggestions. The trail, which only takes about 20 minutes to walk, is wide and graveled making it suitable for people with different levels of ability. The maximum slope is less than 4 percent. You'll find two picnic sites with tables, two fire grates, hand pump drinking water and a barrier free restroom onsite.Directions: From Hoyt Lakes or Silver Bay travel the Superior National Forest Scenic Byway to the intersection of Highway 2. Take Highway 2 north for approximately two miles. Trail and picnic area will be on your right.
