Iron Range Offroad Driving Class

Intro to Offroad Driving 101

On selected weekends, Iron Range Offroad hosts an offroad driving class at the Iron Range OHV park in northern Minnesota. We will go trail riding on easy and moderate trails in the park and spend some time talking Jeeps. You will get a chance to get your Jeep into 4-Low, get it dirty, and maybe even get stuck. Don't worry, we'll get you out too, because that's part of the unwritten Jeepers code. We never leave someone stranded.

This class is not for "extreme" vehicles and people looking for hardcore trails (though the park does have that too). Instead it is geared toward the beginner who wants to walk before he/she runs (we will "crawl" over some rocks). Class size is limited to 10 vehicles to ensure that everyone gets personal attention, gets to watch enough other vehicles to see what works and doesn't, gets to take some great photos, and gets to meet a variety of other Jeep owners.

You can expect to:
  • Learn about how your Jeep works, how to use it safely, and what kind of terrain you can negotiate. We'll talk about everything from tires and lift kits to lockers and winches. You can ask questions and feel confident that you are with a group of Jeepers who have similar adventurous interests, AND similar questions about their new 4WD investment.
  • Learn about maintaining your vehicle. Know what breaks and what needs extra maintenance when you go wheeling regularly.
  • Learn about Jeep clubs and Jeep events in the area, other places to go, and organizations that are working to protect your access to recreational areas both in this area and around the country.
  • Learn your way around the Iron Range OHV park. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources charges $45.00 for a 3-year sticker, but once you have this sticker, you can come back again and again.
  • Become eligible to sign up for future classes that will cover more advanced Jeep-ing techniques and more difficult trails.
  • Start your journey of adventure and excitement... the very reasons you bought that Jeep in the first place.

Register for an adventure!

The cost is $249.00 per vehicle. There is no additional charge for passengers. The driver and each passenger must wear their seat belt at all times. Pets are not allowed. Tow hooks front and rear are mandatory. Trips cancelled less than 7 days prior will be refunded 50%, trips cancelled less than 2 days prior cannot be refunded. (Prices and policies are subject to change without notice by Iron Range Tourism Bureau.)
